First, you can expect to have a lot of fun. However, if you are not an experienced climber our staff will teach you the basics before you start to climb. You will need to watch an instructional video covering the basic safety principles involved with indoor rock climbing. The video will be followed up by some personal instruction by one of our experienced staff members. After the completion of the instruction, expect to be challenged mentally and physically while attempting to climb the various terrain throughout the gym.
What should I wear to rock climb?
We suggest that you wear comfortable clothes. Keep in mind that you will need the full range of motion of your arms and legs, so no tight jeans. Also remember, we have climbing shoes available for rent.
Can I climb if I don’t have a climbing partner?
We do suggest that you visit Exposure Rock Gym with a partner, especially if you are new to rock climbing, but there are a number of alternatives available. We offer private lessons, memberships or just come in and ask the staff about bouldering for the day.
How old do I have to be to climb?
If you are under the age of eighteen, remember to have a liability release waiver signed by your actual parent or legal guardian. This is a requirement before you are allowed to climb. With that said, all ages are welcome to climb. (see next question for more details)
How old do I have to be to belay?
Belaying is the act of working the safety ropes for the climber. At Exposure Rock Gym, we use a top-rope belay set-up incorporating a Petzl GRI-GRI as the belay device. We are aware that this may sound a little confusing and have decided to allow only those participants 14 years of age or older to be eligible for belay instruction.
Is there anywhere to climb outside near here?
